PHOENIX VALLEY METRO, METRO CENTER STATION PARKING GARAGE. Phoenix, AZ. Steel, epoxy paint, lights, stainless steel mesh (WebNet). Seven locations on 3-story building.
This artwork was inspired by the night blooming datura plant native to the Sonoran Desert. I worked with the design team and community to develop this site-specific artwork. The seven very large sculptures hang from the walls on 3 sides of this new light rail station parking garage.
When designing this artwork, we considered the multiple viewing opportunities - from the freeway, pedestrians on the ground, above on the platform and trains etc. The artwork has integrated lighting, which makes it a piece that changes from day to night and thus can be seen 24/7.
