THEA

FOSS WATERWAY SEMAPHORES. TACOMA, WA.
Steel, aluminum, powder coat, hand-blown glass, cable.  21’ x 60’ x 6’

Sculptural installation on the Foss Waterway Esplanade which serves to support the connection of down
town to the waterfront via the Prairie Line Trail. The sculpture is inspired by maritime flag systems as well as train signals, because this location is where the transcontinental train tracks meet the coastal waters. There is an interactive aspect to this artwork as the signal flags spell out “THEA” and “FOSS”, which viewers can decipher via the accompanying signage.  I worked with the Foss Waterway Foundation and historical society in the development of this artwork. Commissioned by City of Tacoma.
